How did the Rose City Rollers get started?
The Rose City Rollers were founded in August ’04 by a small band of gritty, gutsy, nostalgic gals who decided to dust off their ole quad skates and hit the rink. Since
then, the League’s endured quite a metamorphosis, changing composition & location multiple times. “The Rose City Rollers will prove to be a lethal combination of
brains, brawn, budding skill and spirit. . .oh, and a bit of PBR,” said Roller Girl November Pain.

The Rose City Rollers consists of 6 teams, The Heartless Heathers, The Break Neck Betties, The High Rollers, The Guns N Rollers, the Axle's of Anihilation and the all-star team "Wheels of Justice".

What other teams do the Rose City Rollers play?
We compete in the National Womens Derby Flat Track Association.

What’s so great about the Rose City Rollers?
We are a group of strong, good-natured dedicated women who skate fast, spill hard & get up smiling. We work hard, but play as hard as we work.

How is Roller Derby now different than it was when it started?
Roller Derby used to be somewhat scripted. All of the games now and our plays are all real and so are the bruises... unfortunately.

Is Roller Derby dangerous?
Without protective gear, Roller Derby can be quite dangerous. You have a better chance at not being seriously injured if you wear wrist guards, elbow & knee pads, a helmet and a mouth guard. We require that the aforementioned gear is worn at all times during our practices. We do rock bruises and scrapes quite frequently.

What are Roller Derby games called?
Bouts.

How many girls are on one team?
5 girls on the track at a time, 10 - 15 girls per team.

How many girls play in a single jam?
5 per team.

How is the winner determined?
Total scored jammer points.

------ General Roller Derby Rules ------
What are the rules?
According to the rules set forth by the Texas Rollergirls. The first thing you need to know are that there are three positions:

Pivot: sets the pace for the pack and is the last line of defense
Blocker: tries to stop the jammer, knocks around the opposing team's blockers
Jammer: sprints through the pack, scoring points by passing members of the opposing team

The pack starts with a pivot from each team in front, 3 blockers from each team in the middle, and a jammer from each team in the back. When the whistle blows, the pack takes off, and on a second whistle, the jammers start fighting their way through the pack in an attempt to be named "lead jammer."The jammers lap the pack and when they re-enter the pack, they receive one point for each member of the opposing team that they pass.

"A jam" lasts a maximum of two minutes, but the "lead jammer" has the right to call off the jam at her discretion. It sounds simple, but it's not ... 'cause there are two little things called "falling" and "fighting" that fill some jams with mayhem, violence, and penalties.
