About the Rose City Rollers and Events + Facilities Manager position: 

Rose City Rollers (RCR) is a unique nonprofit looking for an equally special Events + Facilities Manager.

RCR is a 19-year-old sports organization that prides itself in being body-positive and an empowering space for women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals. We are the largest roller derby league in the world with 450+ members, ages 7-55+. Our league is engaged and passionate about derby and its impact on our Portland community.

This position oversees planning and executing bouts and Skatemobile (mobile skate truck) events, along with managing RCR’s Hangar at Oaks Park. This position provides high-quality, on-brand experiences for fans and supporters while achieving financial goals. This is a management position that also includes significant hands-on tasks. You’ll supervise the Special Events Coordinator and collaborate with them to plan and execute bouts and Skatemobile events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Events:
  • Plan and execute 40+ roller derby bouts plus 20+ Skatemobile events in collaboration with the Special Events Coordinator and Staff. This includes, but is not limited to, event project management and production, box office management, insurance, city and OLCC permitting, medic staffing, AV management, track maintenance, event finances, volunteer oversight, and talent management
  • Ensure all events are fan-centric, on-brand, high quality, and meet safety requirements
  • Vendor and Permit Management (Fire Marshall, OLCC, Security, Concessions Agreements, Contractors)
  • Manage event budgets alongside RCR’s Executive Director
  • Staff Management (Paid and Volunteer): schedule, oversee, train, and support volunteers
  • Function as on-site Bout Manager for at least 80% of RCR bouts (every other weekend) and schedule coverage as needed + Skatemobile management (first nine months, then more flexible)
  • Manage bout streaming in collaboration with Marketing + Volunteer departments
  • Event technology management
  • Partner management and contract oversight
  • Sponsorship fulfillment and contract oversight
  • Work with Marketing to ensure event promotion across all platforms and that they sell out
Facilities:
  • Manage RCR’s Hangar at Oaks Park
  • Cleaning and organization – empower volunteers/create schedules
  • Asset management: restrooms, skate floor, production equipment, Rent-n-Roll derby gear library, Skatemobile
  • Bar management – inventory, stocking, beverage cooler maintenance
  • Office management
  • Manage budgets for facilities
  • Work with Oak Parks (landlord) on lease agreement, facility permits, calendar management, and parking alongside Executive Director
  • Address venue emergencies, and have action plans in place
  • Communicate building closures due to weather or emergencies
Experience & Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years of event management experience and budget oversight
  • Proof of being fully vaccinated
  • Experience overseeing marketing needed to achieve event success
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets
  • Experience working with diverse employees, members, volunteers, and donor base
  • High energy, upbeat, “can-do” attitude; high degree of initiative
  • Strategic thinking and an ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Proficient project manager, including excellent written and verbal communication
  • Able and willing to work from home on personal equipment (computer, phone, etc.)
  • Reliable transportation to our venue and other off-site locations as needed
  • Ability to be on feet for long hours and clean facilities as needed

Work Schedule: 40 hrs./wk—Full-time, exempt. Work generally happens 10a-3p weekdays plus many evening and weekend meetings/events. Comp time is available on a rolling basis for weeks worked over 40 hours.

Compensation: $53,000-$63,000 salary based on experience, reviewed annually, plus comprehensive benefits worth over $13,000.
