Are you curious about roller derby? Want to see if it’s the right fit for you? Join us at BIPOC Discover Derby Day, a free event designed to introduce BIPOC folks to the exciting world of roller derby and the Rose City Rollers Adult program!

What to Expect:
This event has 3 components:

• WATCH: free entry to a live adult roller derby game on 6/28/2026.
• LEARN: Learn about Rose City Rollers Adult Program and our league.
• TRY: An opportunity for you to gear up and receive your first hour of roller skating instruction!

Note: Game attendance and skating are optional, but we highly recommend participating in both for the full experience.

EVENT DETAILS:

Sunday, June 28th, 2026
At the Hangar at Oaks Amusement Park

• 2:00 PM – Doors open for the Adult mashup game, welcome and meet other BIPOC folks and skaters.
• 2:15 – 3:30 PM – Game time! Cheer on the skaters in action.
• 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Learn about our adult program, gear up, and skate!
• 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM — Hang out for a happy hour to reflect on the experience and connect with other attendees and BIPOC league members.

The schedule above is approximate. After the game we’ll gather in a designated area and talk about the adults program and then gear up. Games can end earlier or later depending upon time outs and other events that are hard to plan for.

Who Is This Event For?

BIPOC
This event is for anyone who identifies as BIPOC. If you do not identify as BIPOC but would like to volunteer to support this event, please reach out.

Ages & Skill
This event is perfect for adults 18 and up who are ready to try standing on skates without assistance. Our track is free from railings, and we do not use skater aids (like the walkers you may see at some rinks). If you are up for a challenge, this is the place to be!
If you fall in love with derby, we’ll help you sign up for our next Intro to Roller Derby session.

Gender
The Rose City Rollers mission is to serve women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals who want to play the team sport of roller derby, connect with an inclusive community, and realize their power both on skates and off.

Skaters of all genders including cisgender males can find a place in our adult officiating program. If you are interested in officiating, you are welcome to participate in this event. While watching the game, keep an eye out for the on-skates officials (referees) in striped uniforms and off-skates officials (usually wearing black) tracking stats.

Please note: This event is not open to current RCR members.

What to Bring/Wear:

• Skates, Pads, Helmet – Bring your own if you have them, but we can provide all gear as needed. Required gear is a helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads, and quad roller skates.
• Socks – Socks make skates more comfortable!
• Clothing – Wear clothing you can move in and that will be easy to slide knee pads and elbow pads onto. The Hangar has no heat or AC.
• Water Bottle – Stay hydrated!

There will be plenty of time to grab your gear and water bottle after the game before orientation.

What We Provide:

• Rental skates and all the necessary protective gear is provided at no cost, as needed.
