| PORTLAND, OREGON, MAY 16, 2023 – Roller City Rollers (RCR), Portland’s World Champion roller derby league, invites you to join the fun at their highly-anticipated Roller Rally! This family-friendly carnival-themed event completes RCR’s annual junior derby fundraiser. Roller Rally is this Sunday, May 21st, at the Hangar at Oaks Amusement Park and is open to the public. Families and friends will gather for carnival fun, including a live band, bounce castles, water balloon fights, and more!
Roller Rally supports youth skaters by increasing accessibility to roller derby and fostering an inclusive community. Admission is free, and every ticket purchased to play carnival games directly supports their Juniors Program. There will be games like face painting, t-shirt decorating, pie-in-the-face, and tasty snacks and concessions! It’s a thrilling event that ensures a memorable experience for all ages and supports a good cause.
“We’re excited to celebrate our Junior skaters with a fun community event,” says Kim ‘Rocket Mean’ Stegeman, RCR founder and Executive Director, “Roller derby is more than just a sport- it’s a community, and our goal is to continue making community-building activities like roller derby accessible to youth.”
The RCR Junior skaters have raised over $30,000 in their Roller Rally pledge drive efforts. Those funds support their travel costs, scholarships, uniforms, and gear-lending library, breaking down barriers to access and providing a supportive community that allows them to build confidence and realize their power both on skates and off. Roller Rally is an excellent opportunity to support youth athletes, help grow a strong and inclusive community, and have fun while you’re at it!
